About John Hartman and Durango Silver Company

John and Estell Hartman, both born and raised in the American Southwest came to Durango Colorado in 1973 from Albuquerque, New Mexico. They were Jewelers and stonecutters in Albuquerque and had a Jewelry manufacturing and a stone cutting shop there.

John and Estell Hartman were collectors of Antique American Indian items, Antique Firearms, Early Frontier Cowboy items, Wild West Show items an Antiques from the American western frontier.

In 1976, John built a Trading Post just west of Durango on the Hwy to Mesa Verde National Park to sell Indian Jewelry, Jewelry by designed by John and Estell Hartman, Antique Firearms and Antique Cowboy and Indian Frontier memoribilia.

The Hartman's have now been Traders to the Navajo and other Native Americans for well over 37 years. Dillon (son) and his wife Nattarika are quickly becoming the driving force in the business with the same interests and knowledge that has been handed down to them from a wealth of experiance.

Our main focus these days is high quality natural American Turquoise and Native American made Sterling Silver Jewelry both American Indian and Contemporary that is heavily influenced in design by the Southwestern styles that have for so long been our heritage.

We have collected high quality Turquoise for over 40 years and own five Turquoise mines in Nevada. Some of our closest friends are owners of other important Turquoise Mines in Arizona, Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico - we live and breath Turquoise!
