Antique American Indian Beadwork by the Sioux

The John Hartman Antique Indian Beadwork Collection

The Sioux Indians of South Dakota were the most ambitious when it came to making Indian Beadwork items. The Sioux Indian Nation was in the heart of high plains and the Sioux Indians were a naturally ambitious culture of people.

For this reason, you will find that a lot of American Indain Beadwork was made by the Sioux. They made moccassins, pipebags, possibles bags of all types and shapes, war shirts, leggings, saddle ragalia, and on and on. Some of the greatest antique Indian beadwork items I have found have been Sioux.

Although there were many other tribes such as the Crow, Cheyanne, Apache that produce lots of beadwork, most of what you find is Sioux.
